Remove “Unread E-mails” in Windows login screen

How many times have you had friends visit your house, borrowing your computer and checking their MSN email?
And afterwards the login screen shows the unread messages text everytime.
This annoying message showing how many unread email messages you have, can be removed from the login screen.

Create a new notepad file, and save it as a .reg file anything.reg

Copy and paste the following text into the file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail]
“MessageExpiryDays”=dword:00000000

Save the file, and doubleclick it in the directory where you have placed it.

Your registry should be updated, and the message removed.

Repeat the process with the following code, to get the message back.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail]
“MessageExpiryDays”=dword:00000001

This has only been tested on Windows XP, and we cannot verify it works on Vista.
